A teddy for a child of three or more

This is the birthday list for anyone from three up. From three onwards a child chooses their own teddy, and they choose with their eyes. This is the age for characters, for a bear with a name, for the one that looks exactly like the dog next door. It is also the age when a first proper teddy makes sense: a Steiff or a Teddy-Hermann that will still be around when they leave home.

Everything here is marked for three and up, which allows more detail than a baby's teddy can have: in the face, in the limbs, in the character. They still need to survive play, so the fabrics are sturdy and many of them wash.

If the child already has a favourite animal, that is a good place to start; if they have a favourite story, the familiar faces are often the shortcut.
