Back to Buyer's Guide: A Milestone

A retirement gift

Marking a retirement calls for something with substance. These are collector pieces from established makers: fine materials, careful finishing, often limited editions. They are chosen to be kept rather than used, and to be looked at on a shelf for a long time, which is why the face and the posture matter more here than anywhere else in the guide.

A retirement teddy is often bought by a group, which allows for something better than any one colleague would buy alone. It is also, quietly, a good gift for someone who is about to have time on their hands.

Steiff's classic editions are a good choice, and a Charlie Bears handmade piece suits someone who would enjoy a bit more personality.
